Become an International Telecom Agent For Residual Monthly Profits
Introduction
I am proud to say that my first ever venture into making money online in October 2002 is still bringing me a monthly income without any work at all.
When I began, I had a lot of enthusiasm but I had no money, zero e-commerce experience and I was living in a country where I knew nobody who could help me.
I began my internet career working as an agent for a company that provides international telephone calls.
I certainly made a few mistakes along the way and had a lot of frustrations to deal with, but if you are interested in following in my footsteps you’ll be able to avoid the mistakes I made and save a lot of time.
What Are Telecom Agents
An agent is usually somebody who works a little harder than an affiliate. Agents work for a company and usually have to take responsibility for customer service or administrative tasks. In exchange for this agents usually benefit from nice commissions and far less competition in their industry.
A telecom agent works for a telecom company. They are likely to offer many different types of services such as international calls, call divert services, voicemail services and more.
Is there a market for telecom services?
Nowadays I try to rely on cheap / free telecom services such as Skype to make and to receive calls so I’d like to address the main concern when I speak with people about becoming a telecom provider.
The telecom industry is not dead. I concede that companies are moving to cheap VoIP services where possible but VoIP is still not yet perfect and there is still a need to make traditional telephone calls and to make calls from cell phones which do not yet have VoIP capabilities.
If you consider that there are still millions of people who use AT&T and British Telecom in the USA and UK then there are still great opportunities to sell cheaper services to them.
Advantages of Becoming a Telecom Agent:
- Residual income. Once you get somebody comfortable with your service then they’ll continue making calls every month. If you continue marketing then you should also be gaining new customers each month too so your income should rise continually.
- This business can be 100% automated so once it’s set up and once marketing has been done, you can leave it to put money into your bank each month.
- There are still millions of people paying too much for international phone calls.
- You can begin this business with no money required at all
- Just a few business clients can make you a very significant monthly
- You can learn all you need to know as you go along
Disadvantages of Becoming a Telecom Agent
- Telecom prices are going down every month and over the next few years profits will likely reduce too
An Action Plan To Get Started …
1) Find a credible telecom provider to work with
2) Lear about the industry
3) Get a website (you can get one for free)
4) Begin Marketing
1) Find a Credible Telecom Provider
I researched about 20 companies when I began this business. I worked hard to ask for sample accounts so I could test call quality and I made a big effort to learn about how the company operated.
Here are some important things to consider:
- Payment terms. Do you have to generate certain revenues to be paid? What commissions they pay. I suggest working with a company that offers at least 7% commission and one that will carry forward any earnings if they don’t reach a certain level.
- Call quality. This is not always easy to test but see if you can get a sample account and if you can learn about how problems are corrected. You should enquire about the number of staff who provide technical support and ask which countries have the most problematic connections.
- What work will be required aside from marketing. Some companies will do nearly all the work for you. Others may require you to complete paperwork, make contact with your customers etc.
- Agent support. Will the telecom company help you, or are you left to work on your own? Do they provide you with banners, a website etc. to help you to market your site?
It’s extremely tough unfortunately to be able to really test a company until you work with them for some time. I have worked with at least 10 companies and have had problems with perhaps half of them!
To get you started though I’d like to introduce you to the gentleman I began my business with. Joseph Horton is the founder of Namada.com. Josephs role is to arrange the most lucrative agent opportunities with telecom providers and to represent those providers to agents.
There are some excellent benefits in working with Joseph. He is an intelligent and hard-working man who has negotiated exclusive deals with many telecom companies.
- Agents working with Joseph will get significantly better commissions and terms than if they deal directly with the telecom providers.
- Joseph will provide you with a customized website for most of the companies he represents. I think he works with about 6 companies so far and Joseph will maintain your sites and host them for you.
- You get a fantastic level of support from Joseph. He is available by telephone, by messenger and is always happy to assist you in any way.
- All of Joseph’s website are automated so that you have none / very little administrative work to complete.
Joseph has about 16 years experience in the telecom market. He is a busy man but will make a huge effort to help you get started if you are sincere and determined to make money with him.
2) Learn about the Industry
Although it’s not really essential, I do suggest learning a little about what services are available and how telecom companies provide services. If you work with Joseph then he will answer any questions your customers might throw at you and you can increase your knowledge as you need to.
If you do understand a little about the telecom industry then you can market yourself as a consultant. You can advertise to people that you can help them choose the right telecom provider. This gives you a practical marketing advantage over others.
3) Get A Website
When I began my telecom career I created my own website(s). This
Geekcrets program is designed to help you make money without needing
one and to begin with I suggest asking the telecom company / Joseph to
provide you with a site yourself.
Joseph’s sites may not be the most modern creations but they do work, and as long as you have them set up, you can free your time to just bring people to them. Joseph is constantly tweaking his sites and improving on them and the sites he can provide you with now are a huge improvement over what was offered years ago.
4) Begin Marketing
This opportunity is excellent in that you can dedicate 95% of your time and energy on marketing. You have already been given many marketing reports already which you’ll be able to apply but here are some strategies I adopted myself:
I had no marketing budget at all when I began but I genuinely believed that my services would be exciting and useful for every English-speaking westerner who was living in Thailand. I made a few telephone calls and emails to social groups and businesses which worked with westerners. Many of them had email lists or printed newsletters. I was lucky that I managed to get publicized without being asked for money – everybody I spoke with understood that I was just beginning my business and they all were happy to help me out.
I printed on my computer an A4-sized flyer which I photocopied and posted under every door in my apartment block because I knew that there were many westerners living there.
I also emailed the webmasters of every website that catered to westerners in Thailand. Some of them mentioned my telecom business, linked to my site and provided visitors with my contact details; others asked me to pay money.
I had no experience in administering a referral system with UWT but I did offer on Thailand-related forums to pay a referral bonus if anybody could introduce a friend or business to my service.
Over time I emailed personal messages to every one of my customers and built an excellent reputation for myself.
