In 1989 I started using a service called CompuServe. It was one of the first services that linked members – both business and personal – to others on the internet. Compared to today with our access to virtually everyone with a PC, notebook, iPod or other device we were a small international family. It was dial-up and my first introduction to being able to meet and “converse” with others without state or national borders. Of course in 1989 we had effective mail delivery and costly, but effective, phone services. But few of us even knew anyone other than family or old friends in other states or in other countries.
CompuServe and later America Online (AOL) made it possible to meet a growing number of people worldwide at the expense of their respective hardware and a monthly dial-up fee.
In 1991 I started my first telecommunication reseller operation. The walls protecting AT&T and its monopoly had fallen years before. And now others, starting with MCI, were competing and offering customers throughout the country alternatives to save money. For three years we brought savings to US callers as we learned about the business of toll free numbers, calling cards, and conference calling which AT&T had effectively controlled for all of history before the mid- 1980s.
In 1994 I learned about a very unique service which was combining the new lower international rates being offered in the USA and the new switching hardware being developed by the new carriers.
This service, international callback, allowed people overseas to access the new lower US calling rates and make their international calls more cheaply. ![]()
By now I knew a few people overseas from CompuServe and AOL interaction. So I wondered if they might be interested in this new service for making phone calls outside their home countries. I soon learned from them that not only could they save on calls to other countries, but could even save money using this new American option for calls within their own countries! It seemed that I might be able to use the internet for business, which in 1994 was still a somewhat novel idea. I had learned about shared commissions in my prevous life at Merrill Lynch and the investment business. This seemed possible if people could trust someone in America they only knew online to pay them. I am still pleased to report that this trust exist and for over 16 years that trust has been well- founded.
In that same year, 1994, Global-Force dot com was born as was my first website. It was a few simple pages introducing callback and allowing people to request a faxed form to complete and return. It was years before we could not only accept online orders, but even have the ability to create an online form.
The 16 years since have seen steady growth offering, directly and through our international agent program, greatly expanded and improved services. These include VoIP, virtual calling cards, mobile SIM cards and most importantly - local and toll free forwarding numbers.
